Earlier this year the O12 Heavy infantry known as “Bronze, Deep Space peacemaker corps” received a New loadout.  The Bronze  model has a thickly armored space suit with a serious and inter-planetary look.  The suit and visor fit right into the deep space look, and the jacket must be standard issue police wear to help identify him to civilians.  This Hi unit is at the high end of the O12 price chart, so let’s find out if he is worth the points.

The most obvious advantage of the Bronze is its Total Immunity.  Ti allows a unit to treat all ammo types as normal.  Combine this with good CC and a range of weapon loadouts and things are starting to look pretty good.   The Bronze can be a wildcard in Starmada and a duo in O12 Vanilla/Prime.  His accuracy is not the best, but with an extra burst from a cheap Harris he does damage.  Finally he has climbing plus which can be used to hide during the opponent’s turn or to find a line of sight to the enemy.  The Bronze can even be a specialist.

However this all comes at a price, and it’s quite a price! The Bronze costs 49-55 points depending on the profile.  For a unit this expensive it should be noted that he is quite slow once the fighting happens with 4-4 Move.

As he is a wildcard the Bronze can fit into any fireteam.  My preference is a security Harris.  This Harris is good with a Raveneye for E/M mines and as a forward observer, and then a Kappa Hacker or a Psi-Cop as the third member, among other options.  When the Harris pushes into the midfield you can leave the cheaper fireteam members on ARO duty and Climb high with the Bronze.  This leaves the other Harris members in danger, but losing a Raveneye or Kappa is something that most players can deal with.  Taking a paramedic to revive the Bronze is a very good strategy.  The Roadbot is a flexible option, but a Lambda doctor would be more likely to succeed.  Once the game starts hunting units with special ammo types is the play you want to be making with the Bronze, this is his biggest advantage, but don’t forget that he is strong in CC too.

In a recent game I took the Bronze HMG in a Harris with a Blue coat and a Raveneye.  The mission was Mindwipe so I was forced to push into the midfield to secure my objective.  A linked Zhanshi Missile launcher lost the gunfight, but for once I wasn’t too worried about the result because of the Bronzes Ti. Once I had pushed the button in mid I set up the Harris on ARO.  There they got smoked out by a Shao Lin Monk and I lost the Bronze to a Rui Shi spitfire, which can see through smoke.  This seems like a terrible loss, but the Bronze in cover and dodging on 10s took seven orders for the Rui Shi to remove. If I had used a Beta Harris the Monk would have simply destroyed it in Melee and I believe the losses would have been greater.

The Bronze is a real brick of stats.  If you’re going to take him I would recommend using a printed list so that you can easily refer to his profile.  Keeping him alive is a game of give and take, but this guy can be a real power piece if used right.  I am very interested to see what strategies will be available for the Bronze once “Reinforcements” are live.  I think he could be a very powerful piece.
